First Lesson in Person in 3 Months! - Week 48

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing great! This week was good and busy here in Sacramento! We had a wonderful Sunday service with our favorite part member family yesterday! We also made a new friend this week. We met him over Facebook and he is awesome! We were able to introduce the Book of Mormon to him and he loves reading it! Our other friends are doing super great also! We are staying busy teaching them and connecting with our members!

We also had an awesome District Conference this past week (in person!). President and Sister Hymas were there and we all got to say goodbye for the last time in person. Their last week in Sacramento is this week and we are all super heartbroken! But we are excited for President and Sister Zimmerman to come!  It's a very happy/sad sort of thing.

Well, there isn't too much to report on this week. Things are about the same as usual but Sister Golightly and I are doing great! We were able to have two in person lessons with members this week (following social distancing of course)! That was so exciting! I'm so grateful for that amazing love and support of the amazing members here! God truly does work through other people!

I love you all so much! Have a wonderful day and an amazing week! Also, happy Father's Day to all you amazing men out there! Thank you for everything you do!

Lots of Love,
Sister Ferrin

Cheesecake is a Tender Mercy - Week 47

Hello Everyone!

Another week, another email!  Sister Golightly and I are doing super great!  Today marks the 90th day of missionary quarantine (and yes, I can't believe it either). This past week was a bit of a rough one but there still were plenty of tender mercies each and everyday!

Tender Mercy #1:  We were able to have a video call lesson with our friend Pauline!  This was awesome because for the past few weeks, all the lessons we've had with her have been strictly over the phone.  But this week we were able to get Facebook Messenger working on both sides of the line!  It was so great to actually connect a face to the voice and we had a great lesson reading the Book of Mormon together!

Tender Mercy #2:  Our mission had what is called a Mission Tour on Wednesday.  Elder Whiting from the Seventy spoke to us over Zoom.  He invited us to prayerfully come up with some goals we want to personally work on to help us develop Christlike attributes and missionary skills.  After praying about it, I felt inspired to read the Book of Mormon all the way through, focusing solely on the attribute of Humility.  It has been such an amazing experience so far and I am excited to keep studying!

Tender Mercy #3:  The Rancho Cordova zone made some awesome videos this week!  I highly recommend that you go find our facebook page and watch them!  I am so grateful that I get to work with such awesome missionaries!  I love being in this zone and area!

Tender Mercy #4:  Sister Golightly and I have had some really amazing lessons with some of the members of our ward this past week!  We also have had some really great lessons over video chat with friends all over the world!  It has made me realize how grateful I am for the technology that makes it possible to connect with some many wonderful people!  It also has made me so grateful for all the love and support we have received!  Thank you so much!

Tender Mercy #5:  I figured out how to make cheesecake... no explanation needed on why this is a tender mercy.

So yes, even though it was a bit of a harder week, there still has been so many wonderful blessings and tender mercies.  I love how the prophet Nephi puts it:

"But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance."

May we spend some time each and every day to notice the hand of the Lord more often in our lives.  We truly have so much to be grateful for and the best part is: the more we are grateful for what we have been given, the happier we will be!  I love you all so much!  Thank you for being a tender mercy in my life!

Lots of Love,
Sister Ferrin

A Family History Kick - Week 46

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the short email but yes, this past week was a good one!  Most days are pretty much the same.  We have a set schedule for everyday that gives us time to study, exercise, clean, cook, and teach lessons over technology.  We have been having a lot of lessons with our awesome members so that Sister Golightly can meet them all!  We also made two new friends this week!  We now are teaching an awesome lady named Curina and her daughter!  They are super sweet and SO ready to be taught the gospel!  I am so excited to get to work with them!  Our other friends are doing super great also!

Fun fact: Sister Golightly and I have been on a family history kick this past week so if you want to learn how to have fun doing your own family history, I highly recommend going to my Facebook page and watching our Facebook Live Devotional!  It was so much fun getting to talk about something that I absolutely love with all my heart!

Sad news, the dog we walk every morning got sick so we haven't been able to walk our favorite mop everyday. Hope and pray that he gets better soon!

Well, I love you all so much!  Thank you for all of your support and love!  Never forget that you are a child of God and that He loves you SOOOOO much!  You are amazing!

Lots of Love,
Sister Ferrin

Staying in Rancho - Week 45

Hello Everyone!

Crazy last week of the transfers!  As many of you have heard, I am staying here in the River Park Ward with Sister Golightly!  Sister Brandley was transferred down to Lodi.  I already miss her so much but I know she is going to be doing amazing things down in the hills.  By the end of this transfer, I will have been in Rancho Cordova Zone for four transfers (or six months)!  I can hardly believe that it has been that long, it feels like I just showed up yesterday.  I love it here in the River Park Ward and I'm excited to keep serving! (Also, transfers are the reason why I am writing on Tuesday instead of the usual Monday)

Highlights of the Week!
- We had a couple of great lessons with some of our new friends this week!  We were able to teach Pauline about prophets and the Sisters in the Roseville Mission were able to drop off a fijian Book of Mormon for her to read!  She was super grateful to have her own copy of the Book of Mormon and has committed to reading it this week!
- We had an awesome lesson with our new friend Nick the other day!  We focused on how much God loves him and his daughters.  He told us that even though what we told him was pretty new to him, he still wanted to try it and find out for himself that what we are saying is true!  Nick also committed to reading the Book of Mormon this week!
-  Thanks to technology, we were able to have a couple of lessons with some friends that Sister Golightly taught while she was in the Philippines! Not only was it a miracle that the technology allowed us to reach out to them, but both of her friends are wanting to be baptized!  It was so incredible to get to connect with them and share with them our testimonies!  (and yes, I'm still working on improving my tagalog skills)
- We celebrated the end of the transfer by going to this taco truck that one of our members had recommended!  The food was pretty great, the crowd outside the truck was exciting (hehe), and we survived!
-  Our mission had a couple of really amazing Zoom devotionals this week!  We got to hear from one of the daughters of President Nelson, Hank Smith, and the brand new Young Men's General President.  Even though quarantine means we have to stay inside pretty much all day, I am so grateful for the amazing devotionals we've been able to have as a mission over Zoom every morning!  It definitely fills up my spiritual tank!
- Shout out to Elder Jensen (one of my ZLs) and the chocolate chip cookie recipe from his mom.  I've been baking chocolate chip cookies for the past 4 days.

Once again, this has been a crazy but awesome week!  I'm so grateful for all of the blessings and tender mercies from this past transfer and I'm excited to see what the Lord has in store for this transfer!  God is truly a God of MIRACLES!

Lots of Love,
Sister Ferrin

P.S. As many of you have heard, there has been a lot of crazy stuff recently in the USA.  I've had a couple of people ask how we are doing in regards to being so close to downtown Sacramento and the Capitol Building.  We are safe and have been asked to follow some extra precautions.  We are not allowed to leave the apartment past 8pm and we are asked not to go downtown (or even midtown).  So, yes. I am safe and sound!
