California is Breaking the Word of Wisdom because She is Smoking - Week 57

 Hello Everyone!

Well... another transfer has come and gone. I seriously can't believe it has been six weeks since Sorella Finlinson and I came to East Sac! We have had such an amazing time and seen so many miracles! We got transfer calls on Saturday night aaannnndddd...

I'm shotgun training in Stockton, Hmong speaking!

Just kidding.

Sorella Finlinson and I are both staying here in the Eastern Avenue ward! But... we are getting a new companion! TRIO LIFE! I'm super excited because our new companion is Sister Olsen (the same Sister Olsen I served with in Rancho)! She is awesome so stay tuned for some great stories and miracles this next transfer!

Highlights of the Week!
- Sor. Finlinson and I got to do a lot of awesome service this week! We were able to water plants again this week (twice!) We also went to a member's house and made homemade strawberry jam! It was so much fun getting to can again, it reminded me of all the time we canned at home!
- We had another awesome lesson with Chris and Sandra this week on Thursday! Our ward mission leader came with us which was so nice! We started teaching them about the Plan of Salvation and when we taught them about the Fall of Adam and Eve and how it was part of God's plan, Sandra got so excited! She kept saying, "That just makes sense! It makes sense!" It was AWESOME! We are trying to have a Sunday service with them so extra prayers would be greatly appreciated!
- NEW FRIEND! We made a new friend this week! His name is Zackie and he is super cool! He meet with missionaries before so when we called him, he was happy to meet up with us this week! We met him at the near by park and had a great conversation with him. He isn't originally from the USA and had some crazy stories. We introduced the Book of Mormon to him and we are meeting with him again next week to talk about it!
- Um... so if you haven't heard yet, California is basically on fire so that's exciting. Luckily there aren't any fires in the Sacramento area but the smoke and the air quality have been really bad this past week. Haha good thing we already all have masks! Prayers for all the firefighters and those working to put out the fires!
- Today marks 13 months since I entered the MTC. Holy cow time flies so fast!

Thank you for all of the love and support this past week and transfer! If I had to give this past transfer a theme it would probably be: missionary work is a joyful work! Sor. Finlinson and I have been having so much fun these past few weeks! Sure things are hard and we have our disappointment, but through Jesus Christ, even our trials can become treasures! I am so grateful to be a missionary here in Sacramento California and I am pumped for another transfer!!

Love you lots,
Sister Ferrin

Water + Good Conversation = Happy Plants (week 56)

Hello Everyone!

First of all, so sorry about the weird dud email I sent earlier today. That was totally an accident! Oops.

Another awesome weeks for the books! Also, crazy fact: this week is the last full week of the transfer (mind blown!).

Highlights!
- Sorella Finlinson and I got to do some service this week! We were introduced to this sweet lady in our neighborhood who needs some help watering her massive garden while she recovers from surgery. So now we get to water her garden every Wednesday!
- We got to meet a really awesome lady in our ward named Tish and her nonmember husband Alex! They fed us lunch and we got to know them! We are hoping to help them can some tomatoes next week. Shout out to my parents for teaching me how to can fruits and veggies as a kid!
- Chris and Sandra are doing well! We had a lesson with them last Monday evening and we were able to teach them about the First Vision and the Book of Mormon! The best part was when Chris said, "Wow. I really relate to Joseph Smith right now in my life. I'm looking for answers too." When he said that, we almost danced around the room! They are both so awesome and now we are working on having a Sunday Service with them!
- An awesome member in our ward made us some homemade artisan bread that we were able to drop off to our friends this Sunday! They looked great and they  tasted AMAZING! A huge thank you to the wonderful ward members here in East Sac!
- We were able to have a pass-a-long lesson with our friend Noa! Sister Golightly and Sister Ofa joined us! We were able to introduce him to the Plan of Salvation and he is so excited to learn more! While we will no longer be teaching him, I am so excited for him to keep learning about the restored gospel! He is in good hands!
- On Wednesday, we had Team-Ups with Sister Rew and Sister Hunt again! Since all of us love music and play different instruments (or sing), we decided to make a music video! If you go to my Facebook, you'll be able to watch it!

It was a great, Spirit filled week! I have loved being able to read Come Follow Me this week and learn about the stripling warriors!

20 And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.

21 Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.

That comes from Alma chapter 53. May we all strive to be more like the stripling warriors and stand true for the Lord! I love how they could be trusted by both their military leaders and by God to always so the right thing. Such incredible young men!

I love you all so much! Have an absolutely amazing day and a great week! You are all in my thoughts and my prayers! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you all!

Lots of love,
Sister Ferrin

Zoom Zoom Zoom - Week 55

 Hello everyone!

Awesome week!

Another short-ish email (sorry)

Here we go!

Highlights:

- We made a new friend over Facebook. His name is Noa and he is awesome! Great news: He wants to turn his life around and possibly be baptized! Kinda sadder news: he actually isn't in our area which means we'll have to pass him off to other missionaries. Back to good news: he's from my last area so he is going to be in great hands! (Shout out to Sisters Golightly and Ofa!) Whoohoo missionary work!
- We had an AMAZING lesson with Chris and Sandra last Monday evening. To describe it in four words:
1. The
2. Spirit
3. was
4. ELECTRIFYING!!!
Oh man, it was incredible! We testified of how Jesus Christ can bring them the peace and healing they are looking for and by the end of the lesson, everyone in the room was emotional! We have a lesson with them tonight so extra prayers for Chris and Sandra!
- I know I say this literally every week but the members here are amazing! It has been such a delight getting to know them and be in their homes (both in person and through zoom)
- More singing!!! Sorella Finlinson and I got to perform for our ward's zoom Sunday Devotional! We did a version of For the Beauty of the Earth. If you want, you can watch it on Facebook! (Yay technology)
- We had Zone Conference this week over zoom (sigh... hopefully we'll be able to meet in person soon). It was so good and the Spirit was way strong! We also had interviews with President and Sister Zimmerman and let's just say, the Spirit of Revelation is VERY REAL.
- If I've learned anything on my mission (and this week) it is this: find a reason to laugh/smile every day! The Gospel is a message of joy and happiness! Let it's happiness fill and enrich your life!

Keep praying for Chris, Sandra, Karen, and her son! Prayer is so powerful and I KNOW that faithful prayer can lead to miracles! Thank you for all of your love and support this week! Please let me know if there is anyone I can pray for this week! I love you all so much!

Lots of love,
Sister Ferrin

Road Trips and Porch Swings - Week 54

Hello Everyone!

Sorry for the short email but here are this week's highlights!

- We made a new friend! Sister Finlinson and I are now teaching a sweet lady named Karen and her son! She is so sweet and so willing to learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ! I am so excited and grateful that we were able to meet her!
- On Wednesday, Sister Finlinson and I got to drive down to Elk Grove for team ups! (Road Trip!) I got to work with Sister Hunt for the afternoon which was so much fun! I have never been to the southern areas of my mission before so that was pretty cool!
- It has just been so exciting getting to know the members of the ward and teachings lessons! The members here are just the sweetest and they make you feel like family! I'm so grateful for them!
- MUSIC! I'm sure all of you know how much I love music and it has been such a blast getting to sing while Sister Finlinson plays the piano! We have loved getting to play for our members! A highlight was when we went over to our a sweet sister's house and she pulled out her guitar! We all sang and harmonized different hymns and primary songs!
- Random thing of the week: I have fallen in love with porch swings. Enough said.

This week has been a good one but also a harder one. Thank you for all of the prayers and support! Words can't even begin to describe how grateful I am for each of you! Words also can't describe how grateful I am for my Savior and His Atonement. He truly is a source of peace and comfort for all who are struggling and need rest. I am so grateful for the Plan of Salvation and the knowledge we have about this life and the next. God truly is so loving and merciful! Oh my goodness, I love Him so much!

I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!

Lots of love,
Sister Ferrin
