I'm a missionary! Whoohooo!
I got to the MTC last Wednesday, said goodbye to my family, and embraced the missionary life. And let me tell you... missionary life is crazy! Every second of the day is filled with classes, workshops, meals, and teaching opportunities. Even though it's super busy, it's a party! The reason why it's a party is because of my companion and district. Sister Rawlings is the bestest companion ever! She's from the Preston, Idaho area and can milk a cow better and faster than anyone I've ever met! She's super funny but has the biggest heart and testimony! I love working with her and being her companion!
My district is 38 E and they're the best! There is me, Sis. Rawlings, Sis. Abraham, and Sis. Burgener. We are all going to the Sacramento, California Mission. Then there is Elder White, Elder Sorenson, Elder Hintze, Elder Bailey, Elder Crystal, and Elder Fairbanks. They are all going to Toronto, Canada. The last two elders are Elder McKinnon and Elder Hales who are going to Denver, Colorado South. You can catch us laughing, making jokes about Canada, and quizzing people about the color of their toothbrush. We also call ourselves the Farquaad Starsquad, so if that doesn't just describe us, I don't know what will. They're all wonderful and I am so grateful the Lord put them into my life!
A few highlights from this week:
- Sister Rawlings and I taught two investigators: Brayden and Chey Ann. It was a wonderful experience and the Spirit was so strong each time we shared our testimonies of the Book of Mormon and God's love!
- I ran into an Elder Ferrin also going to Sacramento (Real Crazy!) We pulled out the Familysearch App and found out that we are 5th cousins through Samuel Ferrin (one of my great, great, etc... grandpas). What a small world!
- The sisters in the district learned how to gird up our loins (literally with a sheet) and took a picture. However, we were too distracted with girding that we all forgot our keys and were locked out of our room. Sister Rawlings and I took the walk of shame in our pajamas all the way across campus to get help. Needless to say, we had a really good laugh about it.
- The sisters in the district searched the entire MTC campus in order to find Cookies and Cream Milk and Yellow Powerade. Finally some sweet sisters snuck us into their resident hall so we could buy our much valued food items since the vending machine in our resident hall was possessed and dispensing air. Truly, this is an age of miracles.
- I was able to run into Sister Glazier before she left for Bolivia. I've also ran into Sister Fontano from my YSA ward, Sister Beck from BYU, Elder Olsen from my home ward, and Sister Niu from High School. Actually I see Sister Niu on a daily basis. It always makes my day to hear her laugh and get a big hug from her! I also ran into the Daybells from my home ward the first day I was here and they also gave me a big hug! God is so good to me!
It's been a great first week and I'm excited to continue working! I have felt the Spirit so much in just the few days I have been here! I love bearing my testimony even in front of people I've never met before! I've been able to do a lot of things I don't think I could've done without the Lord's hand guiding me. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He watches over all His children. I have felt His love for me and for those around me. It's really hard here, physically, mentally, and emotionally, but I know that as I give my heart and will to the Savior, I'll be lifted up and everything will be okay. I can't wait to serve the people of Sacramento! I love them already and I know that the Lord loves them!
Matthew 11:28-30
Lots of love,
Sister Ferrin
P.S. Handwritten letters and packages are like gold here so if you ever want the rest of my district to be jealous of how much you love me, here's my MTC address ;)
