Week 16

Hello Everyone!

Well, this week sure has been exciting!  I have a new companion!  Her name is Sister Rew and she is from Bountiful, Utah!  She has been on her mission for 5 months today and she came up from Rancho Cordova.  She is super funny and I love working with her!  Also, the reason why I am writing today is because yesterday was Veteran's Day so our P-day was moved!

Funny Story Time:  One of our Bishops (Bishop Roberts) has this tradition he likes to go through with for new missionaries.  He (and his wife) hide all their pictures, statues, and books of Christ that are around the house.  Then they have the new missionary come over with her companion, and sets it up so that she thinks she is teaching a non-member.  Bishop Roberts introduces himself by his first name and says that he is a non-member.  The lesson starts and Bishop Roberts starts asking the new missionary really deep doctrine questions.  He does it for about ten minutes and then he stands up, shakes her hand, and welcomes her into the ward.  He did it for Sister Rew this week and it was pretty funny!  She did an amazing job with answering all his difficult questions.

This Week's Highlights:
-  One of the best ways to find people to teach out here is to work with Part Member Families.  We were able to visit this family in our ward on Friday and they are awesome!  The mom and the daughter are members, but the dad (Josh) isn't.  However, when we read the Book of Mormon with them, it became very apparent that Josh already has a testimony of the Book of Mormon and the Prophet Joseph Smith!  The biggest issue that the family has is that they have a really hard time coming to church on Sundays.  However, THEY CAME TO CHURCH THIS WEEK!!!  It was such a miracle and they are going to try to come to church next week too!  We are so excited to get to work with Josh and his family!
-  Not only did Josh and his family come to church but Mary and her family came to church too!  We have been used to seeing Mary at church because members of the ward will take her, but it was such a miracle to see Mary's whole family at church!  They are a less active family but we are hoping that because Mary wants to be baptized, her family will begin to come to church again!  The ward members were so awesome with fellowshipping the family at church!  We are so blessed to have so many wonderful people in our wards who love the gospel and missionary work!
-  We had an AMAZING lesson with our friend Suzanne this week!  Suzanne has a lot of struggles throughout her life so we focused on the Plan of Salvation with her.  The Spirit was so strong as we talked about how the purpose of this life is to have joy and become like our Father in Heaven.  It was just what she needed to hear!  We all may have gotten a little teary-eyed and she wants us to come back again!
-  Sister Ferrin has discovered that driving a giant truck may not be one of her strong suits.  Long story short, we are alive and the truck isn't destroyed.  I have learned the valuable lesson of taking sharp turns slower and to not drive off cliffs.  Also... why we have companions.

Something that stood out to me this week was the importance of knowing that we have a loving Heavenly Father and that we are his children!  It's crazy (and pretty sad) to think that there are people in the world who don't know that they are a child of God.  Everyone deserves the chance to know that they are a daughter or a son of a loving Father in Heaven and because of that, they are worth everything to God!  That why we sing "I am a Child of God" at such a young age!  So in case you have forgotten recently, please, please, please remember this:  YOU ARE A PRECIOUS CHILD OF GOD!  You are loved and needed!

  1.  I am a child of God,
And he has sent me here,
Has given me an earthly home
    With parents kind and dear.
  2. Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
    Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
    To live with him someday.
Have an amazing day and a fantastic week!  Know that you are in my thoughts and my prayers!

Lots of Love,
Sister Ferrin
